Try These Natural Remedies For back Pain First

As one who has suffered with back pain I know you want relief now. But like me you want to try
home remedies before resorting to prescription drugs ,
spinal injections and/or surgery. Here are five natural pain remedies that can help relief your discomfort.

1. Try icing it: Applying an ice pack can reduce inflammation and soothe your pain. I keep a larger zip lock bag filled with crushed ice in the freezer. Fifteen to twenty minutes is usually all it takes to calm down my back. Here's a tip when my back is really bad I alternate ice and heat try it.

2. Take a hot bath: Try soaking in a tub of hot water for 20 minutes or more. A warm bath can work wonders. Of course use ice first, but after 48 hours a warm bath or even a shower can help back muscles relax.

3. Buy a new mattress: If your mattress is more than ten years old a new mattress is a good investment. If your budget is tight try putting a 3/4" sheet of plywood under the mattress.

4. Try a massage: Local massage therapists may make house calls if you don't feel able to visit one of them. Or you can ask a spouse or friend to gently knead your back muscles. There's lots of info on line or go to your local library for a book on massage. Either way it will relax you and soothe those aching muscles.

5. Relax: Learn and practice a relaxation technique, such as meditation, or try a deep
breathing exercise, such as closing your eyes, breathing slowly and deeply, and counting backward from 100. A lot of pain back is the result of emotional tension and relaxation techniques can help.

Hopefully the above methods will bring you some relief. I have tried most of them and they do work. Of course they are not meant to replace professional help, but they are non-invasive, have no side effects and can be done for no or little cost. The next step is to explore other non evasive methods, One of the best is the Lose The Back Pain System by the Healthy Back Institute. This system has helped thousands. I only wish I had known about it earlier, I may not have needed surgery. For more info click on the Lose The Back Pain photo at the top of the right sidebar..

Eight Out of Ten Adults Will have Back Problems

Most adults at sometime in their lives will have back pain. In fact statistics say that eight out or ten adults will suffer from bad backs. For some the pain will be severe enough to prevent them from normal activities. If you have suffered with back pain you are not alone. Like you I have had back pain that after rest, medication and physical therapy finally ended up in surgery. A back operation is your last resort and should only be done after you have exhausted all other options. Obviously the first thing you should do is see your doctor. After there a several methods your doctor and/or you may consider.

1. Medication: The first thing is to calm down the discomfort with a pain killer. Also alternative application of heat and cold packs can bring immediate relief.

2. Rest: Year ago most doctors would tell you to go to bed for one or two weeks. Now we know that lengthy bed rest may do more harm than good. However some rest - one to two days maybe helpful in relaxing the inflamed muscles.

3. Physical: Therapy: Physical Therapists can help you learn proper ways to avoid further injury and teach you how to straighten your core muscles.

4. Injections: Now we get into invasive methods. Spinal injections can bring temporary relief, but will not cure your back problem and do have some risks.

5. Back Surgery: In future articles I'll go into the risks involved in surgery, for now let's just say that this should be the absolute last resort.

But are there other alternatives what about acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal treatments? While some of these alternatives may give relief but they don't get to the real cause of your discomfort. One of the most successful programs that I have found is The Lose The Back Pain System by the Healthy Back institute. For 15 years The Healthy Back Institute has specialized in treating chronic back pain. They have helped over 50,000 folks who've suffered from scoliosis ... herniated discs ... sciatica ... arthritis of the spine ... spinal steno sis ... lower back pain ... upper back pain and more - return their bodies to what they were like BEFORE they had back pain.

This ground breaking program is now available to everyone. The team at Healthy Back Institute has put together a system called Muscular Balance Therapy. I wish I had known about "The Lose The Back Pain System" before my surgery. If I had known about Jesse Canone and his program I probably could have avoided months of pain, surgery and being flat on my back for 6 weeks. For more information and links to free videos and advice on curing you back pain see my resource box below.

Making Progress

I saw my surgeon yesterday for the two week post op. I can now sit or ride in a car for 20-30 minutes. I'll start physical therapy next week. I'm fortunate to live 5 minutes from a state park with walking trails so at least I can get a change of scenery.

My Aching Back Story

For several months I have been dealing with back pain. The pain started in my right buttocks and radiated down my right leg to my right foot. At first I thought it was only a muscle pull, the results of lifting several heavy boxes in and out of a van. However the pain in my leg continued and got progressively worst. Standing, walking and especially driving became torture.Sometimes the pain would be more like a burning sensation and sometimes my foot would go numb and I when I walked I could not tell if my foot was touching the ground. Now at sixty-three I considered myself in pretty good shape. I have always exercised and watched what I ate. Fortunately I have managed to avoid serious injury and sickness. This was all about to change!

Finally a month after first experiencing the pain I went to my family doctor. He prescribed some medicaton and referred me to physical therapy. To make a long story short PT didn't work. In fact it only made it worst. Finally after a MRI revealed a herniated disc. I had surgery. Now one week later I am flat on my back, but pain free.

Since my surgery I have been researching back conditions and alternatives to surgery - yeah I know I should of thought of this before surgery! I have discovered that there are methods, treatments and exercises that if follwed can bring about relief from back pain. These treatments get at the undelying cause of back pain. One of the most highly recommended is a program called "Lose the Back Pain" for more information, free guide and lots of videos click here Click Here! If you are experiencing back pain I encourage you to check out "Lose The Back Pain" Click Here!
